PPRO moves to stablecoin settlement

Local payments platform PPRO is using Damisa's regulated stablecoin rails to settle cross-border funds the same day, starting in Latin America and now expanding to more markets.

PPRO, a platform that connects payment service providers and merchants to local payment methods around the world, has started using stablecoins to move its own money between countries. On 15 October 2026, settlement company Damisa announced that PPRO is using its network for treasury and cross-border settlement. The arrangement began in Latin America and is now being extended to more markets.

What happened

PPRO collects funds locally through Damisa's on-ramp and off-ramp network. Damisa converts those funds into regulated stablecoins, moves them across borders the same day and settles them in the currency PPRO chooses. The companies say this replaces chains of correspondent banks with a single regulated route, reduces the amount of money PPRO has to keep prefunded in each market and gives it full visibility of every payment.

Damisa's chief executive and co-founder, Jordan Lawrence, said Latin America served as the proving ground. PPRO's vice president of treasury, Almir Majcic, said the results in the region made the case for expanding the setup further as PPRO grows.

Who Damisa is

Damisa is a London-based, stablecoin-native settlement platform for cross-border business payments. It reports an Australian Financial Services Licence with AUSTRAC registration for digital currency exchange and remittance, a Money Services Business registration with FINTRAC in Canada and a VASP registration in Poland, with Malta authorisations still in progress. It says every payment is screened for sanctions and anti-money-laundering risk, and that it settled more than $70 million across more than 90 countries and 70 currencies in the first half of 2026.

Correspondent banking explained

A traditional international money transfer between businesses often passes through several banks. Each bank in the chain holds accounts with the next, and money has to be parked in those accounts in advance. Every step can add cost and a day or more of delay, and it can be hard to see where a payment is at any moment.

If you are asking what is a stablecoin, it is a digital token designed to hold a steady value, usually one US dollar, backed by reserves. Used as a bridge, it lets a company convert local currency into a dollar token, send it over a blockchain in minutes and convert it back on the other side, without waiting for each bank in a chain.

Why it matters for payments

Most stablecoin news focuses on consumers, but the clearest growth this year has been in business plumbing. Payment companies like PPRO move large sums between markets every day to pay out to merchants. Cutting the cash they must prefund in each country frees capital, and same-day settlement shortens the time merchants wait for their money. The end customer does not see any of this; they still pay with their usual local method.

Latin America is a natural starting point: many currencies, high demand for dollars and banking routes that can be slow and expensive. The same issues apply in many other corridors, which is why the partnership is expanding.

What to watch next

Watch which markets are added after Latin America, whether other payment platforms adopt similar setups, and how licensing such as the EU's MiCA rules and the US GENIUS Act, due to take effect in January 2027, shapes which stablecoins businesses can use for settlement.
