Money transfer
How to send money abroad: what to check before you send

Most international transfers go wrong for the same few reasons: a name that doesn't match, the wrong country, a rate nobody checked. Here is a short checklist to go through before any money leaves your account.
What you need before you start
Ask the person you are paying for these details, in writing if you can:
Their full name, exactly as it appears on their bank account.
Their IBAN or account number. Many countries use the IBAN; others use a local account number with a bank or branch code. If you're not sure what an IBAN is, see our guide What is an IBAN?
The country where their bank account is held. This is not always the country where they live, and it decides which details you need.
The bank's SWIFT/BIC code, if the destination asks for it.
A reference, such as an invoice number or "rent October", so they can recognise your payment.
You also need your own account set up and verified. Transfer limits apply and may change after verification; you can always see yours in the app.
The three numbers to check before you confirm
Every international transfer has three numbers that matter. Look at all three together:
The exchange rate: how much of the other currency you get for each unit of yours.
The fee: what the transfer costs you.
The amount the recipient gets: the number that actually matters to the person you are paying.
In ODIX Pay, the app shows the exchange rate, the fee and the amount your recipient will get before you confirm. Rates and fees can change until the transfer is sent, so check them on the final screen, not earlier. If you want to know more about how fees work, see the help centre.
It is also worth asking whether the recipient's bank charges for incoming international payments.
How long does an international transfer take?
There is no single answer. Arrival times depend on the destination country, the receiving bank and local cut-off times, so a transfer sent late on a Friday may arrive later than one sent on a Tuesday morning. In ODIX Pay you can follow the status of each transfer until it arrives, and you get a confirmation with the amount and account details once it is completed.
Step by step
How to send money abroad with ODIX Pay, step by step
Open and verify your account
Download the ODIX Pay app and verify your identity.
Add money to your balance
For example, straight from your bank with Bank & Local Payment. See also our guide on ways to add money.
Choose the destination country
Pick the country where your recipient's bank account is held. The app shows the currencies and transfer options available for that destination, so you can see how your money will arrive before you continue.
Enter the recipient's details
The app asks only for what that destination needs.
Check before you confirm
The app shows the recipient's details, the exchange rate, the fee and the amount they will receive. Read them once more.
Approve and follow it
Approve the transfer with a tap, follow its status in the app and keep the confirmation. Your history keeps every transfer.
You can also send money to other ODIX Pay users by Odix number, phone number or email address, and to bank accounts by IBAN. Countries and currencies depend on where you live and are shown in the app. More countries are coming soon. Learn more on Money transfer.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Wrong country selected. Choose the country of the bank account, not of the person.
Name doesn't match the account. Copy the name from the recipient's own message, not from memory.
Typing details by hand. Ask for the IBAN or account number as text, then paste it.
Sending in a hurry. Money sent to the wrong account may not be recoverable. Pressure, secrecy and "do it now" are warning signs. Be wary of anyone who asks you to send money urgently or to move it to a "safe account". ODIX Pay will never ask you to do this.
Getting paid from abroad instead?
If the money needs to come to you, give the sender your ODIX ID or your ODIX Pay account details. If they pay by bank transfer, a virtual IBAN in your own name lets them pay you from their own bank, and the money is added to your ODIX Pay balance.

Features, steps and availability depend on your country and eligibility, and they may change when the app is updated. Where fees or limits apply, the ODIX Pay app shows them before you confirm.
