How to open your account and verify your identity (KYC)

Every regulated payment app asks who you are before you can send, receive or spend money. This guide explains what KYC is, what to have ready, how to open your ODIX Pay account, and what to do if your verification is not approved the first time.
What is KYC?
KYC stands for "know your customer". It is the set of checks a financial company runs to confirm that you are a real person and that you are who you say you are. In most countries, companies that move money are required by law to do these checks before opening an account, and to keep their information up to date.
KYC protects you as well as the company. It makes it harder for someone to open an account in your name, and harder for criminals to use payment services to move stolen money.
What you need for ODIX Pay
To verify your identity in the ODIX Pay app, you need:
A valid photo ID: a passport, a national identity card or a driving licence.
A selfie or a short face video. This liveness check matches your face to your document and confirms a real person is there.
Your personal details, such as your full name and date of birth, entered exactly as they appear on your document.
Take a clear photo of the document, with both sides visible where it has two, and follow the steps the app shows you.
Why do payment apps check your identity?
ODIX Pay is operated by Odix Technology AUS PTY. LTD., which opens your account and runs identity checks. It is registered with AUSTRAC in Australia as a digital currency exchange provider and an independent remittance dealer. Companies registered like this have to know their customers. That is also why availability depends on your country and on identity verification. To learn what a payment app is and how it differs from a bank, see payment app or bank?.

Why a verification can be declined
A check can be declined if a document is missing, unclear or does not match the details you entered. Before you try again:
Make sure both sides of your ID are clearly visible, in good light, with no glare or cut-off corners.
Check that your name and date of birth match your official document.
Take the selfie or face video in good light, with your face fully visible.
Use a document that is valid and not expired.
Then try again in the app. If it is still not approved, contact support through the app or at support@odixpay.com.
Good to know
Availability depends on your country and on identity verification, and some features and cards are not available in every country. Never share your passwords or one-time codes with anyone, including people who say they are helping you with verification. Fees are shown in the app before you confirm; for an overview, see the help centre.
