Turkey's inflation data sets rent cap
Türkiye publishes October inflation on 3 November. The data set the cap for November rent rises, with the lira near 50 per dollar and economists expecting a 2.2% monthly rise.

What happened
Türkiye's statistics office, TÜİK, will publish October consumer price data on Tuesday 3 November at 10:00, Milliyet's Uzmanpara reported. The release matters to millions of households because it also sets the legal ceiling for rent increases on contracts renewed in November. That is why the November rent increase rate ("kasım ayı kira artış oranı 2026") trended in Google searches in Türkiye on Monday, alongside exchange rates ("döviz kurları") and the BIST 100 index.
What economists expect
In an AA Finans survey of 21 economists published on 28 October, the average forecast was a 2.20% monthly rise in consumer prices for October, with estimates ranging from 1.25% to 2.70%, Capital reported. On that average, annual inflation would ease to 29.28% from 29.73% in September. The economists' average forecast for the end of 2026 was 29.64%. In September, consumer prices rose 1.84% on the month.
How the rent cap works
The legal rent increase at renewal is based on the 12-month average change in the consumer price index, Uzmanpara and Politikam explain. With the September data, that average stood at 31.49%, the rate used for October renewals, according to Uzmanpara. The rate for November renewals will only be known once the October figures are out, so many tenants and landlords are waiting for Tuesday's release before agreeing new rents.
The lira in the background
The data arrive with the lira at record lows. On the morning of 30 October the dollar reached about 49.94 lira, a record close to the 50-lira mark, and the euro about 55.87 lira, Evrensel reported. For anyone searching "dolar kaç TL" before paying a bill or sending money home, the rate changes every day, so the figure that counts is the one quoted at the moment of the payment or transfer.
Why it matters for payments
Rent is one of the largest regular payments a household makes. For people who earn in euros or dollars and pay rent, bills or family costs in lira, two numbers move at once: the lira amount due, which follows inflation, and the exchange rate used to cover it. That makes the rate and fee shown before each international money transfer worth checking, whichever money transfer app you use.
What to watch next
After Tuesday's release, watch the monthly figure against the 2.20% forecast, the new 12-month average that sets the November rent ceiling, and how the lira and the BIST 100 react. Market calendars also point to US jobs data and a Bank of England rate decision later in the week, which can move the dollar and the pound against the lira.
