What is a crypto card? How it works

A crypto card is a payment card you fund with cryptoassets, most often dollar stablecoins such as USDT or USDC, and then use like any other card in shops and online. It is not the same as a crypto wallet or an exchange: the card is for paying, while wallets store crypto and exchanges trade it.
How topping up with stablecoins works
With most crypto cards you send stablecoins to an address shown in the card provider's app, on the network shown there. Once the network confirms the transfer, the amount is added to your balance and you can pay with the card. The app shows the amount before you confirm.
Crypto card, crypto wallet and exchange: what's the difference?
Crypto card: a payment card you top up with crypto, usually stablecoins, to pay in shops and online.
Crypto wallet: software or a device that stores crypto and the keys to it.
Exchange: a platform where people trade one cryptoasset for another or for money.
Odix Pay is not a crypto wallet, does not provide any crypto custody service, and does not operate as a crypto buy/sell, Bitcoin/BTC or crypto investment platform.
Why many crypto cards use stablecoins
Dollar stablecoins such as USDT and USDC are designed to track the US dollar, so the amount you top up moves less than coins whose price swings a lot. Designed to track is not a promise: a stablecoin can lose its peg.
Step by step
What to check before you choose a crypto card
Your country
Check that the service is available where you live.
Identity verification
Regulated services ask for an ID document and a selfie. Be careful with services that promise no identity checks.
Coins and networks
See which stablecoins and networks you can top up with.
Virtual or physical
Check whether you get a virtual card, a physical card or both.
Where fees are shown
Make sure every fee is shown in the app before you confirm.
Who runs the service
Look for the company name and its registration details.
Risks to keep in mind
A stablecoin can lose its peg to the US dollar.
Blockchain transfers cannot be reversed, so a wrong address or network can mean lost funds.
Scammers use crypto too. Never share codes or passwords, and only use the official app.
Tax rules on crypto depend on your country. Ask a tax adviser if you are unsure.
