How to use your USDT and USDC for everyday money

A stablecoin token moving from a wallet to a phone, then splitting into a coin and a bank

Holding USDT or USDC in a wallet where you keep your own keys is one thing. Paying rent, sending money to family or moving your salary to your bank is another. This guide shows how people bridge that gap, what choices you have along the way and the mistakes to avoid.

What "spending" stablecoins usually means

Very few shops take USDT or USDC directly. In practice, "spending USDT" means one of three things:

  • Sending it to someone who accepts stablecoins, wallet to wallet.

  • Moving it into a payment app so it becomes a balance you can send to bank accounts or use for payments.

  • Putting stablecoins to work in a separate service, such as Odix Earn, which works with USDT and USDC only.

This guide covers the second and third routes with the Odix Pay app.

Before you start

  • A verified Odix Pay account. New to the app? See how to open an account and verify your identity.

  • USDT or USDC in a wallet or app that lets you send to an external address.

  • USDT and USDC top-ups available in your country. The app shows what is available where you live.

Step by step

From your own wallet to your Odix Pay balance, step by step

  1. Open the top-up option in the app

Choose USDT or USDC, the coin you hold.

  2. Read the network

The app shows the network next to your top-up address: TRC20, ERC20, BEP20, Solana, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Polygon, Optimism or TON, depending on the coin.

  3. Copy the address

Use the copy button or scan the QR code.

  4. Send from your wallet on the same network

Paste the address, pick the same coin and network, check, then send. Not sure which network? Read USDT networks explained.

  5. Wait for the network to confirm

Your balance updates after the confirmation.

  6. Credited in fiat

Your card balance is credited in fiat (USD or HKD), ready to spend with your card (see below).

For screenshots-level detail, see how to top up with USDT or USDC.

What happens after a USDT or USDC top-up

A USDT or USDC top-up to your card balance is credited in fiat (USD or HKD), so you can spend it with your card. Card balances are withdrawn in fiat, not crypto. Odix Earn is a separate service: it works with USDT and USDC only.

Send money to a bank account, including your own

Your card balance is in fiat, so you can send money to bank accounts at home and abroad, to family and to people you pay. You can also send it to your own bank account after an additional address verification. If the receiving account is in another currency, the conversion happens as part of that transfer: for example, euro sent to a Turkish bank account arrives as Turkish lira. The app shows the rate and the amount that will arrive before you confirm. Any fees are shown in the app before you send.

New to transfers? Read how to send money abroad. If people also pay you in euro, a personal euro IBAN in your own name can receive those payments into the same app: see how to get a personal euro IBAN.

Odix Earn: a separate service for USDT and USDC

Odix Earn is a separate service from your card balance. Earn works with USDT and USDC only. The current rate is variable and shown in the app before you turn Earn on, and you can move money back to your balance when you choose. Earnings are not guaranteed and you could lose some or all of the money you put in, so only use money you can afford to lose. Earn may not be available in every country.

Paying in shops and online

Paying a shop in stablecoins usually needs a card or a payment service that sits between your balance and the shop. If that is what you are looking for, our guide what a crypto card is explains how this kind of card works in general and what to check.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Wrong network. Always send on the network shown next to your top-up address.

  • Wrong coin. Send USDT to a USDT address and USDC to a USDC address.

  • Expecting to withdraw crypto from your card balance. USDT and USDC top-ups are credited in fiat, and card balances are withdrawn in fiat, not crypto.

  • Treating stablecoins like a bank deposit. They are cryptoassets and are not covered by deposit protection.

  • Putting money into Earn you may need soon or can't afford to lose.
